1. Controller
The controller for all personal data processed through luxurycarrentalswitzerland.com is Luxury Car Rental Switzerland. We operate as a single brand coordinating a network of local rental partners in 9 Swiss cities, so that one enquiry can be matched to the right partner and vehicle. For any question about this policy, or to exercise your rights, write to [email protected].
2. Data We Collect and Its Source
We collect:
- Enquiry form data: name, email, phone (optional), chosen car (optional), start and finish location, pick-up and drop-off dates, flight number (airport delivery form only), your free-text message, plus the page URL and referrer the form was sent from.
- Data you give us directly by email, phone or WhatsApp, including anything you choose to tell us about your trip or preferences.
- WhatsApp click records: when you tap a WhatsApp button on the site, we log the page URL, referrer, language and the prefilled message text before WhatsApp opens.
- Server logs: IP address, date and time, requested page and browser information, generated automatically by the hosting infrastructure.
- At vehicle handover, for confirmed rentals: driving licence and identity document details, collected in person by the local partner.
3. Purposes and Legal Basis
We use your data to:
- Reply to enquiries and prepare a written quote — this is a pre-contractual step taken at your request.
- Perform a confirmed booking, including coordinating pick-up, drop-off and chauffeur or delivery arrangements — this is necessary to perform the contract with you.
- Keep server logs and secure our systems — based on our legitimate interest in protecting the website and preventing misuse.
- Keep booking records for the period required by Swiss tax and accounting rules — a legal obligation.
We do not use your data for automated decision-making, we do not sell personal data, and we do not send marketing emails unless you specifically ask for them.
4. Driving Licence and ID at Handover
Once a rental is confirmed, we and our local partner need to see your driving licence and an identity document when the car is handed over. This is required to verify that you are entitled to drive the vehicle, to complete the rental agreement, and to meet insurance and liability obligations tied to the car. These documents are checked at handover and are not collected through the website.
5. Recipients
Depending on the stage of your enquiry or booking, your data may be seen by:
- Our own team, who access enquiries through an internal messaging tool to respond quickly.
- The local partner in the city you choose, once a booking is confirmed, so that the rental can actually be carried out.
- Our hosting provider, which stores the site and server logs.
- The third-party services listed below, which receive limited technical data such as your IP address.
- WhatsApp (Meta), if you start a conversation with us through WhatsApp; that conversation is then governed by WhatsApp's own privacy policy, not by this one.
6. Third-Party Services on This Website
The site loads a small number of external resources needed for it to function properly:
- Google Fonts, for the website's typefaces; Google receives the visitor's IP address.
- intl-tel-input, loaded from the jsDelivr CDN, used for the phone-number field in our forms.
- Leaflet, loaded from unpkg.com, used to display the destinations map on the homepage.
- Map tiles from CARTO, based on OpenStreetMap data, shown on that same map.
Each of these providers receives the visitor's IP address as part of normal web requests. None of them sets cookies on behalf of this site, and we do not use any analytics, advertising or social-media tracking tools.
7. Browser Storage
The website stores two small pieces of information in your browser, neither of which contains contact details: a local-storage entry remembering that you closed the cookie notice, and a session-storage entry remembering which car you clicked on so the enquiry form can be prefilled. The session entry is deleted when you close the tab or submit the form. No cookies are set by the site itself.
8. International Transfers
Google Fonts, jsDelivr, unpkg.com and CARTO are operated by providers that may process data outside Switzerland and the EU, including in the United States. WhatsApp conversations are processed by Meta under its own policy and may similarly involve transfers abroad. Where personal data is transferred outside Switzerland or the European Economic Area, we rely on the safeguards available under the revised FADP and, where applicable, the GDPR, such as standard contractual clauses used by the providers concerned.
9. Retention
Enquiries that do not lead to a confirmed booking are deleted after 12 months. Records relating to confirmed bookings are kept for as long as Swiss tax and accounting rules require us to retain them. Server logs are kept only for a short period for security purposes before being overwritten.
10. Security
We limit access to enquiry and booking data to our team and the local partner involved in a specific booking, and rely on our hosting provider's infrastructure to keep the static website and server logs secure. No online payment is processed through the website, which reduces the financial data we need to protect.
11. Your Rights
Under the revised FADP, and under the GDPR if you are visiting from the EU, you may ask us to:
- Confirm whether we hold data about you and obtain a copy of it.
- Correct inaccurate data or complete incomplete data.
- Delete data we no longer need or are not entitled to keep.
- Restrict or object to certain processing, including processing based on our legitimate interest.
- Receive certain data in a portable format, where this applies.
To exercise any of these rights, write to [email protected]. We respond within one month and may ask you to confirm your identity before acting on your request. If you believe your data protection rights have not been respected, you may lodge a complaint with the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) at www.edoeb.admin.ch, or, if the GDPR applies to you, with your local supervisory authority.
12. Children, and Changes to This Policy
Our service is directed at adults able to enter into a car rental agreement, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If we become aware that a child's data has reached us without proper consent, we will delete it.
We may update this policy if our practices, the website or the applicable law change. The version published on luxurycarrentalswitzerland.com at any given time is the one that applies, and we encourage you to check it again before sending us an enquiry.
